Moon Lake Trek

One of the most scenic high altitude treks in Himachal Pradesh, it takes one to the crystal clear waters of Chandertal and then through the high passes of Baralacha-La. Also known as the Moon Lake trek. Culturally, it’s the threshold to the mystical Buddhism practiced in Spiti, Lahaul, Ladakh and Tibet. The barren landscape in the upper regions and the green valley’s below, make the trail awe-inspiring and one of the must-experience ones in this part of the Himalayas.
Day 1 : Arrival Manali Arrival Manali (2050 Mts.) and acclimatization walk around Manali
Day 2: Manali –Batal-- Kunzum (4598 mts.) Drive from Manali –Batal-- Kunzum (4598 mts.) 4-5 hrs over Rohtang Pass (3980 mts.) and enter inhabitable World of Lahoul and descend down to Chandra valley, drive along the Chandra river to reach Batal. The enroute visit to catch a glimpse of the BARA SIGRI glacier. Overnight Batal.
Day 3: Batal – Chandertal (4270m) Duration: 4 hours The trail starts off as a pleasant walk along the pastures bordering Chandra River. The path then leads over the rubble-strewn plateau, crosses a small stream and continues traversing the slope. The track is almost level, with a few ups and downs up to Chandertal. This high altitude lake is a majestic sight, surrounded as it is by the mighty Himalayan peaks. A vast flowerbed meadow is the camping site on the banks of the lake. Overnight Camp.
Day 4: Chandertal –Tokpo- Yongma (4400 mts.) Chandertal –Tokpo- Yongma (4400 mts.) 7 hours. This day onwards we will be on the banks of river Chandra, this will be the longest day of the trek and our camp on the banks of Tokpo Yongma. The alpine flowers can be seen in abundance. Overnight camp near the river side.
Day 5: Tokpo –Yongma –Tokpo-Gongma - (4640 mts.) Continue our trek upstream along river Yunam and continue for about 4 kms. To reach Baralacha La cairns and the hung pasture of the pass. This is a twin pass and just is the beautiful mountain tran Suraj Tal(the sun lake) camp on the banks of the Tal, end of the trek. Our bus pick up from Baralacha pass to Sarchu. Overnight at Sarchu Camp. 4205mts.
Day 6: Tokpo—Gongma—Baralacha Pass--Sarchu (4883 mts.) This day we ford Tokpo Yongma and climb gradually towards Tokpo Gongma. This whole route is surrounded by Lofty Peaks of river Tokpo Gongma. Over night camp.
Day 7: SARCHU—LEH:(250km) B/F at Camps by a landscape coined/shaped by sandstone formations the journey of far across 22hairpin curves across the Lachalung-La passport (5065m). Leads into a beautiful high valley. here Nomaden with their herds of sheep live. across the another second highest pass of the world Taglang-la (5260m). Arrive Leh and check in Hotel ( on your cost)
